Traditional cartoon animation is a slow and laborious procedure, involving a large number of people. The prohibitive cost of the traditional Cell- animation prevents the animators from experimenting with new ideas. The ultimate aim of this work is to offer a computerized platform for creating environment which allows animators to concentrate on the creative activities by using the computer to draw interactively in vector-based system. This thesis work presents an efficient solution to the problem of generating piecewise parametric cubic Bezier curve automatically from the interactive drawing using a digitizing tablet with stylus. The system will ultimately provide paperless process that avoids the media change, and a user interface that replaces the traditional tools used by animators. Our vector-based approach provides the resolution independence which enables the reuse of the drawings at any zoom level. To define the regions of painting, it is necessary to find the intersecting points of two curves. There are two representative curve intersection algorithms; the Subdivision-Method and the Implicitization-Method. In this thesis, we propose the "Hybrid curve intersection algorithm" which takes the advantage of both Subdivision-Method and Implicitization-Method.
