In this dissertation, we propose a novel spectrum sensing scheme for the cognitive radio with receive diversity. By considering the generalized likelihood ratio test detector on each antenna branch and exploiting non-linear diversity combining strategy, the proposed scheme exhibits better performance than the conventional schemes in various fading and noise environments. Through computer simulations, it is shown that the proposed scheme provides significant performance gain over the conventional schemes in impulsive noise environments. In addition, the detection and false alarm probabilities of the proposed scheme are derived in non-fading and Nakagami fading channels with additive white Gaussian noise.
