In the context of the climate change debates, business in many parts of the world is looking more closely at ways of improving their energy efficiency. Among electronic devices, the information displays have been widely used to interconnect people to machine in many areas. By demand for a large size, high resolution and high image quality, alternating current plasma display panel (AC PDP) has many desirable features over the other competing flat panel display and is expected to wide the market share for the promising digital displays of the next generation. A PDP is electrically regarded as a capacitive load because of dielectric layer and MgO on electrodes. When high voltage and frequency pulses on a PDP are applied, there are considerable energy loss and an excessive surge displacement current. Therefore, an energy recovery circuit (ERC) is essential to drive the PDP. To conform to this problem, several prior approaches have been proposed. Although most of energy can be injected and recovered by the prior circuits, they still have several drawbacks such as a poor energy recovery capability, considerable heat generation, poor efficiency and low performance. Although the power consumption is restricted worldwide, it can result in poor energy efficiency and in some reason of the climate change and these drawbacks have been serious as the demand for a large sized and high resolution PDP is growing. To overcome and relieve these problems, new energy recovery circuits and researches for the large sized and high resolution are proposed in this dissertation. First, a new dual sustaining driver used two-different energy recovery circuits for a large-sized PDP is proposed. The proposed sustaining driver has two H-bridge inverters to be used in splitting a panel into two. Two different ERCs are employed to compensate energy for charging or discharging the panel. When the PDP with the two divided panels are driven by the proposed driver, there are good uniformity...
