Information retrieval for internet of things with reliable data and sustainable service over blockchain

Abstract

In the web search engine, words describing a thing have been used as an index for discovering web information related to the thing. However, with the development of the Internet of Things (IoT), the number of web information related to the IoT has increased significantly, and web information is changeable depending on the purpose and phase of the IoT. Thus, it is difficult to accurately discover the desired information among numerous information using only words as the index. As a result, it is required to use an IoT itself, not words, as the index for information retrieval. According to this requirement, this dissertation proposed an information retrieval system based on the standard ID that is used to identify the IoT itself. The proposed standard ID-based information retrieval system consists of three parts. First, we defined the representation and recognition methods to support various standard IDs of IoT over a wireless communication protocol-based medium and web media-based medium. Second, we designed an information retrieval system that accurately discovers the desired information using the standard ID as the index, and collects and verifies the web information of the IoT using the standard ID as the index. Third, we designed a blockchain-based information retrieval system that prevents the data and permission security issues of the proposed standard ID-based information retrieval system. Finally, we showed the feasibility of the proposed information retrieval system by deploying and evaluating the system, including three parts in the Daejeon smart city, Korea.
