A transmitting planar electromagnetic (EM) lens using frequency-selective surface (FSS) for millimeter-wave (mmwave) communication is presented. The proposed EM lens composed of numerous FSS unit cells on a dielectric sheet. The topology of each cascaded FSS unit cell is based on subwavelength high-pass filters distributed over a planar surface. The planar lens design has a low-profile with a thickness of 0.32λo and FSS has a dimension of 0.42λox 0.42λo mm2, (λo=28 GHz). Planar lens antenna is placed about 20 mm of focal distance from a mm-wave probe antenna as a feeding source. The results shows that the proposed planar lens successfully transformed emitted quasi spherical waves to plan waves.
