Analysis of local and periodical transition in Cheong-Gye-Cheon to harmonize locality for urban green growth

Urban sustainability has become a global issue and urban green growth rises as a suggestion. To pursue urban green growth, various studies emphasize the necessity and importance of considering local conditions, in other words harmonizing locality. In this context, this study aims to derive key principles to harmonize locality in urban planning and management to pursue urban green growth. This study thus analyzes a Korean green urbanization case, the change and development of an urban stream known as Cheong-Gye-Cheon (CGC), an urban stream which has contributed to the remarkable growth of Seoul and Korea. Through identifying the major aspects of CGC's green urbanization, authors deliver lessons that are essential for harmonizing locality and moreover pursuing urban green growth. In conclusion, this study further summarizes key lessons for harmonizing locality in urban context which can provide a guideline for government and municipal planners and decision makers to develop urban green growth strategies.
