Due to the widespread smart phones and small-sized laptop computers, the applications of a wireless sensor networks will diversify. These wireless sensor networks are widely used in environment and habitat monitoring, healthcare applications, traffic control, and RFID. However, the wireless sensor network is easily exposed to the attack of a attackers, because it wirelessly communicates with the sensor nodes and the base station. The most common attack is a wormhole attack. In this thesis, we suggest a wormhole detection method in wireless sensor network using distance partitioning from base station. In previous studies, the sensor nodes with limitation in the battery power and transmission ranges were used. Or the special hardwares such as GPS, directional antennas were used. However, these cases have problems in shortening the lifetime of the wireless sensor network, and causing additional costs. In this sense, this thesis shows the way to detect the wormhole attack without using sensor nodes or the special hardwares. Also, this demonstrates the effective size of the range of base station to be divided through simulations.
