In this research, we developed gas sensors based on hybrid metal oxide nanostructures to detect hazard-ous gases. Also we developed gas sensing system on mobile telecommunication platform to utilize the fabricated gas sensor into practical applications. First, we explored the synthesis process of CuO nanostructures by using local hydrothermal synthesis method. Second, we built CuO-ZnO hybrid nanostructures in which CuO nanostructures were grown on the surface of ZnO nanowires and vice versa. Gas sensing properties of these structures were studied by measuring the sensitivity of sensors to NO2 and CO gases over different gas concen-trations, operating temperatures, and growth time. Last, mobile gas sensing platform using Android-based smartphone to acquire and display data was developed.
