Recently, to meet increasing need for high thermal efficiency and low emission in internal combustion engine. Controlled auto ignition in gasoline engines and homogeneous charge compression ignition are noticed because of their extremely low level of emissions characteristics of NOx and potential in lowering the fuel consumption rate. In this paper, the experimental work using rapid intake, compression and expansion machine was carried out to estimate the feasibility of CAI combustion fuelled methane. It was found that the location of peak cylinder pressure was advanced with the increase of compression ratio and IEGR rate. Also, the burn duration decreased with more retarded exhaust valve open timing.
